The Story of the Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

Partner & Best Friend
God summoned a beast from the field and he said, "I endow you with these instincts uncommon to other beasts: Faithfulness, Devotion, and understanding surpassing those of man himself. Lest it impair your courage, you shall never foresee your death. Lest it impair your loyalty, you shall be blind to the faults of man. Lest it impair your understanding, you are denied the power of words. Speak to your master only with your mind and through your honest eyes. Walk by his side, sleep in his doorway, forage for him, ward off his enemies, carry his burdens, share his afflictions, love him and comfort him.
This shall be your destiny and your immortality."

So sayeth the Lord.

And the dog heard and was content.

God turned to man and said, "Behold, this is your partner. You shall worship him as he worships you. Your purpose is to care for him, through youth and age, until he can serve no more. Understand that your final act of love will take courage. Spare your partner any pain. Know that he will never lie to you, he will always understand you and I have placed him here as a guardian angel for you, to watch over you and care for you. He is from heaven, therefore divine. Let his character speak to your heart and be the example for you to follow. He shall fulfill your inequities. He shall be everything humanity strives to be: Honest, Loyal, Kind in Heart, and Strong in Spirit. Therefore, you shall call him Partner and Best Friend."

So Sayeth the Lord.

Her Journey's Just Begun

Don't think of her as gone away-
her journey has just begun.
Life holds many facets, the Earth is only one.

Just think of her as resting from
the sorrows and the tears,
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.

Think how she must be wishing
that we could know today, how nothing
but our sadness can really pass away.

And think of her as living
in the hearts of those she touched,
For nothing loved is ever lost-
And she was loved so much.

Faithful Friend

God summoned a beast from the field and He said... "I endow you with the instincts uncommon to other beasts: faithfulness, devotion, and understanding surpassing those of man himself. Lest it impair your understanding, you are denied the power of words... Speak to your master only with your mind and through honest eyes...

So be silent, and be a friend to man...
This shall be your destiny and your immortality."

So spake the Lord.

And the dog heard and was content.

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me

When tomorrow starts without me,
and I'm not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes,
all filled with tears for me,

I wish so much you wouldn't cry,
though I know your heart aches so
But remember it was
for the best...It was my time to go.

I know how much you love me...
As much as I love you.
And each time you're thinking of me,
I know you'll miss me too.

When tomorrow starts without me,
don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here in your heart.

I'm Still Here

Dear friend, please don't mourn for me
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.

My body is gone but I'm always near.
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.

I'll never wander out of your sight-
I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach-
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.

I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around
And the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.

I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.

When you start thinking there's no one to love you,
you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.

I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.
Just look for me, dear friend, I'm everyplace!

If Tears Could Build a Stairway

If tears could build a stairway And memories make a lane,

I'd walk the path to heaven And bring you home again.

So great has been the sorrow, Since we had to say goodbye,

You were gone before we knew it, And only God knows why.

My heart still aches in sadness, And secret tears will flow,

What it's meant to lose you, No one will ever know.

Four Feet in Heaven

Your favorite chair s vacant now...
No eager purrs to greet me.
No softly padded paws to run
Ecstatically to meet me.

No coaxing rubs nor plaintive cry
Will say it's time for feeding.
I've put away your bowl,
and all the things
You won't be needing;

But I will miss you little friend,
For I could never measure
The happiness you brought me,
The comfort and the pleasure.

And since God put you here to share
In earthly joy and sorrow;
I'm sure there'll be a place for you
In Heaven's bright tomorrow!

Beyond the Rainbow

As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth was soon to fade.

I saw a wondrous image of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.

I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful -- lush and green and wide!

And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!

My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.

I needed to reach out to you, to tell you that I'm well,
That this place is truly wonderful, a happy place to dwell.

That your heart shouldn't ache so, ...the pain should go away
I'll wait for you in comfort 'til you come for me some day.

That although we're not together in the way we used to be,
We're still connected by a bond no eye can ever see.

That when you need to find me, we're never far apart
Just look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.

God Whispered

God saw that you were getting tired
and a cure was not to be...
So He put His arms around you
and whispered, "Come with Me."

With aching hearts, we watched you suffer
and saw you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly,
we could not help you stay.

A Loving Heart stopped beating, A special friend put to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

My Forever Pet

There's something missing in my home,
I feel it day and night,

I know it will take time and strength before
things feel quite right.

But just for now, I need to mourn,
My heart-- it needs to mend.

Though some may say, "It's just a pet,"
I know I've lost a friend.

You've brought such laughter to my home,
and richness to my days.

A constant friend through joy or loss
with gentle, loving ways.

Companion, friend, and confidante,
A friend I won't forget.

You'll live forever in my heart,
My sweet, forever pet.

The Rainbow Bridge for Horses

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,The Rainbow Bridge for Horses

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill, Is a lush, green meadow  where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run, when their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next, Is a place where beloved creatures find rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play, Til The Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness, For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed. Their bodies have healed with strength imbued.

They trot through the grass without even a care, Til one day they whinny and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes sharp and alert. Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the herd.

For just at that second, there's no room for remorse. As they see each other... one person...one horse.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart Has turned to joy once more in each heart.

They nuzzle with a love that will last forever.  And then, side-by-side, they cross over...together.
